Sources now say at least one police officer was shot at the scene and is in critical condition. Two civilians were also struck by gunfire — one of which is also in critical condition.
A man armed with an automatic weapon opened fire Monday in midtown Manhattan, according to news sources.
NYPD reported that multiple people were shot, including a police officer.
The man entered a building at Park Avenue and 53rd Street and apparently barricaded himself.
The man is said to be wearing body armor and appears to be of Middle East or Asian background.
