A federal judge has ruled that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) should have easier access to Treasury Department files.
The judge had earlier been at odds with the Trump administration over access to files detailing government payments.
But U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas on Tuesday gave a team of four DOGE analysts full access to the Treasury Department Bureau of the Fiscal Service. The bureau is responsible for managing government payments that total well into the trillions.
Vargas additionally ruled that the administration and DOGE did not need to pursue court permission to add additional DOGE analysts to the team reviewing Treasury files, according to ABC News.
The judge ruled in April that some files were approved for DOGE review but wanted a system developed to maintain the integrity of the system while under review.
That has now been accomplished to the judge’s satisfaction. She said, “There is little utility in having this Court function as Treasury’s de facto human resources officer each time a new team member is onboarded.”
In March, Vargas and U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer received extra scrutiny following their rulings preventing DOGE access to the Treasury system.
Going back into February, some judges faced scrutiny from congressional Republicans and DOGE leader Elon Musk for interfering with the Trump administration’s efforts to review government spending to search for fraud and waste.
