Oregon Zoo Prepares for Inspection

7/22 The Oregon Zoo expects to pass next week's inspection by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums
JULY 22, 2010 -- The Oregon Zoo in Portland is getting ready for an inspection by the prestigious Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Fewer than 10-percent of animal exhibitors in the country are card-carrying members of the AZA.

KUGN's Eric Dye spoke with zoo director Kim Smith on Thursday and asked how she thinks the zoo will fare with next week’s inspection.

If the zoo passes their Association of Zoos and Aquarium inspection next week- which they’re confident they will- it pays off not only in prestige. It also increases their eligibility for grants, reduces government paperwork, and opens the way for collaboration with AZA colleagues who are experts in their fields.
