Lane County's First Wildfire of 2010 Burns Near Lookout Point

7/19 Lane County's first wildfire of the season is starting small, but crews are wary
JULY 19, 2010 -- A small wildfire is burning near Lookout Point reservoir. The fire began Sunday afternoon on the north side of the lake.

Jennifer O’Leary with the Willamette National Forest says they’re watching it closely, since the ground is very dry.

O'Leary says officials don't yet know the cause of the fire.

Yesterday, drivers on Highway 58 were able to see a plume of smoke rising from the 2-acre fire from across the reservoir. O'Leary says the terrain is not very rugged, which will help fire crews tackle the blaze.
