Eugene Woman Arrested for Extortion Scam

7/15 A Eugene woman allegedly extorted money from a man she met online
JULY 15, 2010 -- A Eugene woman has been arrested for extorting money from a man she met online.

Eugene Police say Amber Louise McGovern, 27, met the victim online through CraigsList and began a romantic relationship. The victim freely provided McGovern with money, but after several months decided to cut off financial support.

At that point, she allegedly threatened to expose their relationship to the man’s wife. The victim called police, who arranged to be present when the man was set to meet McGovern at the bank to pass off the extorted money.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet reported the crime. It is important to note that through the course of their investigation officers determined Amber McGovern may have been known to other victims as Amber Dawn or Amber Swope.

Anyone who may have been victimized by McGovern or who has information in this case is asked to contact Officer Jimmie McBride at 541.912.8084
