Eugene Property Crime Drops 25%

7/14 Eugene Police say property crime dropped during the first four months of 2010
JULY 14, 2010 -- Eugene’s property crime is down for the first four months of 2010. Eugene Police Chief Pete Kerns.

Chief Kerns says, in addition to economic conditions keeping Eugeneans home and several crime prevention programs established in the last twelve months, extra capacity at the Lane County Jail has helped to decrease property crimes.

In recent years, Eugene's crime rate has been significantly higher than Portland and Salem. Kerns explains why.

Springfield recently opened its own 100-bed jail. Does Eugene have a similar plan?
