Steelhead Biting in Our Own Backyard

7/13 The Willamette River offers great steelhead fishing right in Eugene and Springfield
JULY 13, 2010 -- Anybody else notice the boats floating the Willamette River recently?

KUGN wondered what they are fishing for and how they are doing, so we contacted Jeff Ziller, biologist with the Fish and Wildlife division in Springfield.

Ziller says they are doing very well locally…

Word is the Columbia River fishing is going very well and Ziller says the Ocean conditions that benefited the Willamette run also benefited the Columbia too, so we are getting a good run Northwest wide.

Is it an easy fish locally?

Ziller says not much is needed to land the big one.
