Bag Ban for Oregon?

7/13 An Oregon state senator wants to ban plastic bags and charge a fee for paper bags
JULY 13, 2010 -- A ban could be coming soon for plastic bags at grocery stores, if one Oregon state senator has his way.

Proposed legislation calls for all retailers to ban plastic bags at checkout in favor of paper bags with a five-cent charge.

The legislation, however, may not clear the 2011 session, so lawmakers are eyeing the ban to begin in 2012.

Environmental regulators and a California judge say the environmental benefits of paper versus plastic are uncertain.
