Willamette Bridge Meeting Will Discuss Name

7/12 Eugene's city council hear public comments about the naming of the new I-5 bridge
JULY 12, 2010 -- The Beltline was recently renamed amid much controversy – will there be as much public reaction to the renaming of the Willamette River Bridge?

The Eugene City Council will hold a public forum tonight to discuss changing the bridge’s name to the Whilamut Passage Bridge. A request to change the name of the bridge was submitted in May of 2010 by the Citizen Planning Committee for the Whilamut Natural Area of Alton Baker Park.

Even though the Council is seeking comments, the final decision on a name-change would come from the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Tonight’s forum is the second of four and will be held in the council chambers at city hall at 7:30pm.
