Ice Rink May Skate By For Another Year

7/8 Lane County commissioners will allow private groups to repair and operate Lane County Ice
JULY 8, 2010 -- It looks like Lane County Ice will skate by for at least another year. The Lane County Commissioners voted to keep the arena open – but at a price.

The fee for an adult public-session ticket will more than triple from $5 to $18.75. The price of a youth public-session ticket will also increase, as will skate rentals and hourly rink fees for hockey teams.

Part of the agreement to keep the ice rink open requires the Eugene Generals hockey team to post 40-thousand dollars by this Friday for short term repairs.

Ken Evans - President of the Generals – is optimistic the team can raise the money due this Friday.

If the Generals can raise the 40-grand by Friday, they will then be required to raise another $2.4-million dollars by March for major repairs. The facility would likely have to close if the money isn’t paid to the county on time.

If you'd like to help Eugene Generals hockey with a donation keep the ice rink open, visit their website.
