Two Road Construction Projects Reopen

7/8 29th and Willamette and the on-ramp to I-5 from Franklin will reopen Friday morning
JULY 8, 2010 -- Good news for commuters in Eugene Friday morning. Two inconvenient construction projects are reopening in time for the morning commute.

Firstly, the intersection of 29th Avenue and Willamette has been restricted to one lane in each direction since late April. The traffic signal has also been turned off, making the intersection a four-way stop.

After a slow, rainy start, the work is now set to finish ahead of schedule.

Drivers will still see construction workers and equipment in the area for several days as crews finish cleaning up.

Then later this summer, after the new concrete surface is completely dry, crews will return to apply final striping in the intersection. That work will be done at night to minimize traffic disruption.

The next project is the Southbound Interstate 5 on-ramp from Franklin Boulevard, which closed April 12th.

Lou Torres with the Oregon Department of Transportation says even though Franklin will re-open tomorrow, work in the area will continue –

The Franklin Boulevard off-ramp to I-5 southbound is scheduled to re-open around the first of November.
