Covered Bridges Get Much-Needed Improvements

7/7 Lane County's 17 historic covered bridges have received a federal grant for repairs
JULY 7, 2010 -- Lane County is known for its 17 historic covered bridges – and now two will receive needed improvements thanks to federal grant funding -

Bill Morgan with Lane County Engineering and Construction Services –

Morgan tells KUGN news that there are plans to put a new roof on the Goodpasture Covered Bridge on the McKenzie River – and the other 14 covered bridges in the county may be in line for renovations as well –

He says when making renovations to these old bridges, they have to abide by the state historic preservation office known as SHPO (SHIPPO) –

The National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program provides funding to assist states in their efforts to preserve, rehabilitate, or restore the nation's historic covered bridges.
