Gang Activity a Problem in Oregon Youth Jails

7/7 State corrections officials are taking action to curb a growing gang problem
JULY 7, 2010 -- An increase in gang activity among youth in the Oregon Youth Authority is prompting the state juvenile corrections agency to strengthen how it tracks gang activity, places youth in facilities and assigns gang-related treatment.-

Ann Snyder is the Oregon Youth Authority spokesperson –

She tells KUGN news that O-Y-A has named a gang management coordinator who will have many duties –

O-Y-A has custody of approximately 900 offenders ages 12 to 24 in correctional and transitional facilities and supervises approximately 11-hundred offenders on parole and probation throughout the state.
