APRIL 12, 2010 -- Work on Mac Court’s replacement Matthew Knight Arena continues to plow forward. The $225-million project is ahead of schedule in some areas, but overall, Supervising Contractor Adam Bonner says the project will be completed in time for Pac-10 play in December.
At a media tour Friday, Bonner said work is still focused on the exterior. One section on the north side remains open to the elements. That gap will be closed up in the next few weeks. At that time, work on the interior can begin.
On the upper level of the arena, Bonner pointed to numerous steel cords hanging from the ceiling. He said it’s one unique aspect fans can look forward to that won’t necessarily be seen. But it will definitely be heard.
Multiple bathrooms on every floor, 8 stair cases and 8 elevators, 2 Duck Shops, no obstructed views, a removable floor to allow concerts and other events. This new arena is something else!
The public had the opportunity last Tuesday and Saturday to tour the new arena. If you didn't make it then, you'll have another chance this weekend to see the new arena firsthand.
Dave Williford with the University of Oregon athletic department says the next tour will be Saturday, April 17th, from 5 to 7pm. Show up on the east side of the arena on Villard Street. If you show up at 6:30 or even 6:45, you will still get a tour.
While anyone is welcome to take a tour, Williford says fans will see where their tickets may be.
