The death toll is expected to rise after a massive 8.8 earthquake struck Chile. Tsunami warnings and alerts have been posted for a wide area in the Pacific that includes the Hawaiian islands. A civil defense official says there are plans for sounding sirens across the islands early this morning. A tsunami advisory has also been issued for the entire California coast from Mexico to Oregon. The White House says it is closely watching developments in Chile and the threat of tsunamis.
