Federal Texting Ban For Truckers To Trump Oregon's New Law
January 27, 2010 -- (Portland, OR) The federal government's new ban on texting by commercial bus and truck drivers will supercede Oregon's new texting law that bans texting but allows business use.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the new rules yesterday, which is opposite of Oregon's new handsfree cell phone law, which allows professional and business drivers to use handheld cell phones when related to work. A spokesman for the Oregon State Police says the state will enforce the federal ban.

The Transportation Department said violators could face civil or criminal penalties up to 27-hundred-and-50-dollars.
