New Coburg/Beltline Interchange Set to OpenNew Coburg/Beltline Interchange Set to OpenNovember 30, 2009 — PRESS RELEASE: Motorists taking the Coburg Road exit from eastbound Beltline will be diverted onto a newly constructed off-ramp beginning tonight, Monday, November 30. The contractor will have a lane closure on eastbound Beltline Highway beginning at 8:00 PM to do the final striping and sign changes, and the traffic switch will take place when this work is completed.
One left turn lane on the new ramp will remain closed until the new traffic signals are activated later in the week.
The eastbound off-ramp was extended approximately 500 feet on Beltline and widened to accommodate a 500-foot right turn bay, an exclusive left turn lane and a left turn/through lane.
The off-ramp expansion is part of the $2.75 million Beltline Hwy at Coburg Road interchange project that also extended and widened the westbound off-ramp from Beltline to Coburg Road, creating dual lane storage and dual lefts onto Coburg Rd...
The project also converted the median on Coburg Road, southbound from Chad Drive to Beltline Hwy, into a left-turn bay extension for motorists turning onto eastbound Beltline.
Still to be completed on the project is the removal of the old eastbound Beltline off-ramp and the construction of a bioswale near that location that will disperse storm runoff from the roadways in an environmentally friendly process. Sidewalks, illumination, and seeding work will continue until the end of the year.
The contractor, Wildish Construction Company, is expected to complete construction by the end of 2009.
