For his first broadcasting gig, Jerry did everything from production to emptying
the garbage. It was during this stint with the trash can that he fell in love
with the 'glamour of broadcasting.'
His original goal was to be a teacher. Now, he is the Voice of the Ducks with
more than 30 years of broadcasting experience.
A true Oregonian, Jerry was born and raised in Grants Pass and attended Southern
Oregon College (now Southern Oregon University). He started as a disk jockey
his junior year of high school and quickly became a star in the little town.
A big duck in a small swimming hole, Jerry decided to relocate to Eugene in
1970 where he met his wife. The two of them moved back to Medford where Jerry
spent time on the radio, as a TV sports anchor, and doing play-by-play for local
sports teams.
But the lure of the bigger city eventually pulled him back, and in 1987 Jerry
and his wife came back to the lovely valley of Eugene and the bustling home
of the Ducks.
'I love Eugene,' he said. 'It's a diversified city
with every type of people and life from A to Z.'
Probably one of the biggest Duck fans, Jerry isn't complaining about
his job. As the Voice of the Ducks, he hosts every pre-game show and does play-by-play
for both football and basketball. Jerry also serves up your daily breakfast news as a co-host on KUGN's Morning
News from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Jerry is a licensed pilot and in his spare time, he loves to be in the outdoors
and spend time with his five grandchildren. If he were no longer in radio, he
said he would love to live up in the mountains. Also a huge Disney fanatic,
Jerry said he would love to get a job with Disney & he would even wear
a Mickey Mouse costume around the park (hey, it beats emptying the trash cans!)
